What is art? This is a question many black people cannot answer in this country.
Art is an artist's perception. It is an expression of the artist's views, be it dance, paintings, poetry or music. Now before you commenced with the racism chants, you need first grasp it in totality.
Comparing apples with apples. A painter is equivalent to a poet, a dancer, a musician and so forth. For simplicity sake, the analogy will be based on the painter being the same as a poet.
As the poet writes for instance a Shakespearean sonnet, it is only that idea of formalities that restricts him to the style, setting and plot of his art piece i.e. a poem of 14 lines written in iambic pentameter, consisting of a 3 stanzas - 4 lines each and a rhyming couplet at the end. The context to the poem is however only governed by the poet him/her self. It is where he shows you his artistic expression, in layman's words, he is giving you his idea of a topic.
Painting works quite the same, the guy paints what he perceives of something or someone. In this case it, *shrugs* just happens to be our president. Uhm, really now, it is not like the guy does not behave that way. It is as if the guy can't keep his pants up - or in this case zipped. If you give me the impression that it is alright to sleep around, so long you do not forget to take a shower afterwards. REALLY! Our youth have to, supposedly look up to this guy, guess Bat-man and Robin were too good for the current generation. The argument you should, have brought forward is the, the guy has, to an extent, mended his ways, and is trying to be the highest example of what a man should be. Then again, word has it, that the guy is like expecting his 20 something-th delinquent. True to his beliefs, he is really building a nation, in one way or another.
This painting is thus indeed justified.
This painting, I took a look at, and instead of laughing, I wept.
I don't think if, the likes of Chris Hani were here today, top witness what we have become, they would be at all proud. It seems all the efforts were short lived, or we really and truly wanted to drink 24 year old Chivas and drive around in fancy cars with bonds that are an arm and a leg. Doth we really cometh to this.
Our politicians are our ambassadors and they behave in this manor depicted in the painting. True, the mind of the scholar these days far surpasses aiming for such mediocrities, however, a vast amount of the population of this country live in adverse situations and don't know better. They see what our "ambassadors do and take it to heart, seeking a short way of gaining power so that they too, can embarrass a nation. The fall in the trap of seeing success as the material things you have as opposed to what, you have accomplished. how long will this young country avoid being a communist country with idologies like this.
We are indeed the doomed nation.
Remember before you march, do research and ascertain the true message behind the painting and I do hope that this was what he meant - a warning!
