AFRICA
DAY LETTER By: Rea M
I AM AN AFRICAN!
I am an AFRICAN. Often loudest when unity is set by conduct, through the
declaration of a day compelling us to embrace our continental heritage is in
play. Often loudest when worldly eyes set sharp eyes at the beautiful land
filled with things amazing. Often loudest when unwarranted praise is given
where theoretical works are good but reality of practise are often dire.
I am an AFRICAN. Words that are easily forgot by hearts
clouded thick with greed. Words that vacate the soul as your brothers turns a
blind eye to violations of ubuntu. Words oppressed by constant torment from
them who are meant to be carers, providers, protectors, teachers. Words long
replaced with phrases of hatred, resentment, aggression and revenge. Words long
looked down upon.
I AM AN AFRICAN! Boldly I shout.
I AM AN AFRICAN! Yes I am loud.
I AM AN AFRICAN Tall and proud.
I AM AN AFRICAN! Strong and unashamed.
I am an AFRICAN, and you are my brother - I love you.
I wish you all the best, never the worst.
I stand in amaze at all your achievements and get inspired to achieve great
feats too.
I learn from your mistakes but never condemn you on your actions passed,
instead I encourage you to lift your head and make amends – better yet, to
improve.
I fight with you for many a cause and there in the midst of battle I remind you
to spare life oh Africa.
How precious is the cradle that nursed us in every valley, every creak, every ravine,
gorge, mountain, hill and plateau. The land that glimmers at the coming of
sunlight and boastful with wondrous beauty radiant and divine.
With Love,
I AM AN ANFRICAN
